Public
Safety Professionals
Liability, it’s on everyone’s mind, whether you’re a
department head, a supervisor or the one who sees it all first hand and proudly
brings the dirty uniform home at the end of shift. Sometimes it seems
inevitable. How can you keep up with it? If you are a department head, there
is also failure to train concerns. Let us help you. Police Officers,
Firefighters, Emergency Medical Services, we are all in the same boat. We can
show you the traps. We can help sort out your policy and what you can and can
not do……. and the consequences. We can talk about case law and trends. If you
are from Massachusetts, we will discuss CH 89 Sec
7B and what it means to the first responder. We will also discuss the conduct
that this law mandates. Just like you,
we have attended those classes, been there and done that. And, just like you,
we have put it on line when the call comes in. We respect you and what you do
and will do everything in our power to provide you with quality information and
instruction.
Let’s not forget priority #1, your safety. Advanced
driving is one thing, but for the public safety professional it goes far beyond
what the average civilian demands. You drive at speeds faster than the normal
person, the distractions and variables are endless, you need to clear
intersections, and get around traffic. The decisions you make and the actions
you take from behind the wheel have lives in the balance. Stress, it just goes
along with the job…… and that is the problem. That is exactly why training is
so critical. Our training targets both the drivers mind and his/her physical
skills behind the wheel. First we look at decision making skills and
abilities. We try to help you recognize undesirable positions on the roadway.
From there we teach you to avoid them before they happen. We help you to
identify problems as they are staging rather than dealing with them when you are
in them. These skills of observation and decision making will hopefully aid you
in avoiding troublesome driving situations. Next we start to give you the
mechanical skills to maximize your abilities and the abilities of the vehicle.
This is behind the wheel training. We have numerous courses that we can offer to
develop and refine your skills. Finally, we seek to develop mental pathways
that you will use outside of the training session. Stress and tunnel vision
are facts we must face in our line of work. When the human mind and body are
placed in stressful situations physiological changes occur. It is natural for
our decision making capabilities to diminish greatly. Our brain resorts to
using instinctual patterns of behavior. We revert back to what we have done in
the past and what has been successful. With this in mind we seek to develop
mental pathways that you will instinctually revert back to in a stressful
situation. A great deal of time, effort, and analysis has gone into developing
our program. We have examined the smallest details and continually reexamine
them to insure that it will produce the best results in a stressful situation.
This is what makes us very different than other schools. If you are familiar
with our background at the Driven School of Advanced Driver Training,
you know that the path we took to get here came from the world you work in every
day, because of that we are in a position to understand the issues that concern
you. The world you live in is dynamic and so is our training.
